Cafe Vienna

vienna melange @ cafe vienna

Dear fellow tasters,

Still in Gandaria City, after lunch at White Hunter and a bit of window shopping, my friends and I were looking for a place to rest our weary feet and we decided to try a nice-looking European-themed cafe that we had previously seen when we were looking around.  Cafe Vienna, lavishly decorated with marble pillars, golden chandeliers, and classic leather couches which might seems a bit over the top and tacky, offers quite a cozy atmosphere for a Euro lunch or just coffee and afternoon munches.  Regretfully, the leather couches area were full with fuming smokers that we had to sit at the sofa outside.  And here I thought they banned smoking in public places already.

We only ordered some Austrian-titled coffee, a cappuccino, and the traditional Viennese apfelstrudel or simply called apple strudel.  The coffee, Franziskaner and Vienna Melange (looked up on wikipedia and the correct term should probably be Wiener Melange) looked pretty with the cream and froth on top and I guessed they were quite enjoyable though not that extraordinary.  The apfelstrudel was below our expectation, maybe because we had tasted a better one before.  The pastry appeared pale and the apple in the filling was not distinctive.  My friend even commented that our Gandaria City trip that day only resulted in us dining and drinking in fancy places but with pretty standard food.

The taster’s notes:
Favorite dish – the Austrian coffee
What to try next time – might try the ‘heavy’ menu next time around
