Dear fellow tasters,
Dim sum does not usually go with a chandeliered room but at Sun City Luxury Club in Jakarta, it does. As a part of the Sun City entertainment complex located on the sixth floor of Lindeteves Trade Center building, this Chinese restaurant represents the epitome of middle to upper class society of Chinese descent Jakartans living in Kota and surrounding area, those who can afford to spend some of their hard-earned money for a scrumptious dim sum brunch in an opulent and totally over-the-top environment. I don’t really want to claim to belong to any society class but I was there one late morning with a couple of friends simply because they offer 50% discount on all food items Monday to Friday, 11 am to 3 pm which certainly means a great food deal.
Taste wise, the food was great. My friend who lives nearby in Mangga Besar also vouched that dim sum there was by far the best he ever had in Jakarta and it was even better than the overrated Michelin-starred Hong Kong-headquartered Tim Ho Wan. We ordered quite a lot to eat for three but some of my favorites would be the classic and tasty steamed shrimp dumpling (hakau/har gow), steamed shrimp and pork dumpling (siomay/shumai), chicken feet with spicy sauce, baked honey barbecue pork bun (char siu bao), and rice noodle rolls (cheong fun). Well, that was almost all what we had, but I surely enjoyed the interesting yet wonderful shrimp and pork Chinese cruller with avocado sauce as well.
If I remembered correctly, we also placed a second order for the chicken feet and hakau, plus a portion of carrot cake with XO sauce and egg, just for the sake of taking advantage of the 50% off and ending up in a fulfilling dim sum coma.
