Shabu2 House

beef shabu set @ shabu2 house

Dear fellow tasters,

It was because of two reasons — first the rare opportunity to escape early from work and second a voucher for free beef teriyaki that expired that very day — that I decided to try Shabu2 house for dinner.  If I am not mistaken, this restaurant has several outlets in Jakarta, the one I went to is in Grand Indonesia shopping town, another outlet that I’ve seen is just across at Plaza Indonesia.  Upon arriving at the place, I got told that the free beef teriyaki had to be exchanged with chicken teriyaki which was not really a big deal cause it’s free lol.  I was also informed that there was a promotion for a free upsize of any beef shabu-shabu set, so I ordered one regular New Zealand beef shabu set with miso base and it got upsized to a large one.  Fantastic, isn’t it!

The shabu set was finally served and in it was a plate of raw thin-sliced beef and another plate of fresh veggies with shitake and enoki mushrooms, bok choy, white cabbage, sticks of carrot, onion, seaweed, tofu, baby corn, and some udon.  While awaiting the shabu-shabu to cook, I got a taste of the chicken teriyaki — with fried battered chicken cutlets drizzled in salty sweet teriyaki sauce — and it was quite nice.  Finally, the waiting was over and I could enjoy the steaming beef shabu-shabu with all the stuffs put in it and there was quite a variety of sauce and condiments to choose from to season the shabu, but my favorite was the chopped garlic and the chilly oil to make it just a little bit spicy.  I took me some time to finish the shabu-shabu because the large set could feed two person and it was very filling without eating any rice.  All in all, the dining was pretty enjoyable and a healthy meal too with lots of vegetables and less fried stuffs.
