Dear fellow tasters,
From the homey confines of Baconerie, we moved to Sophie Authentique, a neighboring French bakery in Kemang area, presumably the second shop of La Boulangerie Authentique (also in Kemang, although I’ve never been there before so I can’t really make any comparison about both places). The first thing we did here was definitely browsing around the mouthwatering gorgeous-looking display of breads, pastries, cakes and tarts while refraining ourselves from ending up pointing at all of them. Then, we soaked up the cheerful, playful and bright French-thick ambiance during the time we waited for our orders to appear.
So here is what we had that late morning. To start with, my lady friend chose the Raspberry Sorbet to pair with the Beignet Vanilla. The sorbet was delightful, tangy and refreshing and having it with the sweet vanilla custard filled beignet (deep-fried choux pastry, sort of like French donut) was surely a wonderful treat. Then it was me who opted for the Almond Blueberry Tart because I just couldn’t resist those beautiful huge plump blueberries on top of the lovely tart crust.
Next the three of us shared a Croque Madame, a recommended item from the sandwiches menu and sure it was delicious, cheesy and quite fulfilling. Lastly, also a recommendation, we tried the Mini Canelés, a cute French pastry with soft bouncy custard center and dark caramelized crust, a perfect choice for those with a sweet tooth. All in all, it was a pleasant French brunch despite the drizzly weather outside and we spent quite a while just sitting there enjoying the food, the setting and the company.
