Dear fellow tasters,
Two months ago on Christmas day, several food bloggers and I decided to try an Italian restaurant, recommended by word-of-mouth. The restaurant, Signora Pasta, is owned and operated by an Italian family and is located in Cirendeu area, at the southern edge of Jakarta – a bit far for my preference but fortunately I was able to tag along a blogger friend. The place is not really spacious; there are only five or six tables inside and two outside but it has a homey trattoria-like feel with nice Italian-themed decors hanging on the wall.
For lunch that day, we ordered various items from the menu so we could try a bit of this and that. Here goes.
Antipasti (appetizers) – We started with the bruschetta (farmer bread with fresh tomato) and insalata mista (mix vegetable salad). Both were quite enjoyable.
Pasta – The first round, we ordered the ravioli (fresh Italian pasta filled with minced beef and served with signora’s sauce and parmigiano cheese), spaghetti aglio e olio (the usual olive oil spaghetti) and spaghetti al pesto (with Italian basil sauce). We ordered two more items for the second round, the spaghetti carbonara (served with beef combined with eggs and parmigiano cheese) and gnocchi al pomodoro (home made pasta based on potatoes served with tomato sauce).
I had a hard time deciding which one was best. The ravioli’s sauce was to die for. The spaghetti aglio e olio was simple and straightforward but I was amazed it could taste that good. The gnocchi was mouthwatering and it probably tasted much better than what you can find in fancy or hotel restaurants.
Pizza – We ordered two, the signora pizza (with tomato sauce, minced beef, smoked beef, bell pepper and mozzarella) and pizza ai quattro formaggi (with four different cheeses). Both were highly delectable, with generous size, thin crisp crust and tasty toppings.
Secondi Piatti – We decided to try the scaloppine all’aceto balsamico (fillet of beef served with mushroom in balsamic vinegar) and frittura di verdure (fried mixed vegetables). We all loved the scaloppine so much that we ordered another portion.
Dolce (dessert) – There weren’t many to choose from so we ordered three plates of tiramisu to share. It was delightful and huge too that two people could barely finish a slice.
All in all, it was a great lunch. Signora pasta has definitely become one of my favorite Italian food destinations. The price tag is very affordable – for six people and with all that we ordered, each person only spent around 100k rupiahs. I’d surely go back there to indulge my Italian food cravings.
Eat like an Italian. Buon appetito!
