Dear fellow tasters,
Once upon a time in my college days, my friends and I loved to venture to Cipete area just to go to Abuba Steak. Now that Abuba has opened a branch just near Sabang, the reason we went all the way from northern and central Jakarta to the lower southern part was a French bistro and dessert house, Praline. Actually, Praline used to be located in Kemang and my friends and I had tried to go there twice before but they were closed. When we planned to go for the third time, we googled and found that they had moved (the website says ‘in relocation’) to Cipete Raya. The place looked a bit shabby with red velvety seatings and vintage French decor hanging on the wall but I guessed that was what made it feel homey and Frenchy.
The menu was mostly dessert, crêpe, and galette (savory buckwheat crêpe), and a few bistro menu (entrées and main courses). On our two visits there, the ice cream menu that we tried were the ‘baba’ with delicious rum and raisin ice cream and the ‘favorite’ with strawberry sorbet and lemon punch cake. My friend also tried the ‘colonel’, a vodka and raspberry sorbet menu. Then, we shared the ‘tatin’, a crêpe with apple compote, caramel sauce, almonds, and vanilla ice cream. From the galette menu, we did try “l’alaska” with smoked salmon and a dash of caviar. What we loved from the desserts was that the portion is great for sharing and the price is fairly affordable. Also, the galette here was soft, more like crêpe, not the hard-crusted galette in ‘other’ restaurant, if you know what I mean. The drinks menu was somehow limited, so we only ordered some coffee and hot chocolate, but we would definitely go back there, maybe try out “l’escargot” or the ‘ballottine de volaille forestiere’ from the bistro menu. Pardon my French.
