vulcanic ‘tahu telor’ @ by the beach

Dear fellow tasters,

What used to be Fashion Bar in Plaza Indonesia eX is now a beach restaurant, suitably named By The Beach.  The white-grayish stone-covered exterior of this restaurant is adorned by wooden windows offering a peek at the white-curtained wood-and-rattan-furnished interior complete with fake palm trees and beach atmosphere sans an oceanic view.  And the menu, of course, offered mostly seafood selection with a mix of chinese, indonesian, and western touches.

These are what my friends and I ordered when we had lunch there some time ago: salt and pepper squid, grilled gourami fish, prawn mayonnaise, vulcanic ‘tahu telor’, and steamed white rice to eat with.  One thing notable was the unique vulcanic ‘tahu telor’ which is taken from the traditional javanese ‘tahu telor’ made from tofu fried with egg and other ingredients, usually served with some dark sweet sauce.  Here, the ‘tahu telor’ was wrapped in a roll and placed vertically like a volcano.  Other than that, the food tasted pretty standard though it could have been better with such a great place to eat.

The taster’s notes:
Favorite dish – ‘tahu telor’
What to order next time – not sure if I want to go back there but maybe the crab or other seafood menu
Food rating – 2 star
Price rating – $$
Ambiance rating – 3 star
Service rating – 2 star
