Under Bridge Spicy Crab

under bridge spicy crab

Dear fellow tasters,

I recently went on a holiday to Hong Kong and although I didn’t manage to get a table at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, there were several foodie highlights that I can share with you.  I would start with the restaurant that my Hong Kong friend, Annie Das, recommended to go for my first dinner just after I arrived.  It was called Under Bridge Spicy Crab restaurant and just like the name, it is supposed to be famous for its spicy crab, also known as typhoon shelter crab.

Putien

putien heng hwa cuisines

Dear fellow tasters,

I used to pass through Sawah Besar street, or nowadays known as Sukarjo Wiryopranoto, during my commute from work and I couldn’t help but noticing a certain restaurant always packed with cars parking at the front.  Through word of mouth and googling, I found out that the restaurant is called Putien and it serves up Heng Hwa cuisines, a lesser-known variant of Chinese food, but definitely not the least delicious. The restaurant chain comes from Singapore whereas the Jakarta branch is the only branch in Indonesia.

Jun Njan – Grand Indonesia Buka Bareng Blogger

jun njan seafood restaurant

Dear fellow tasters,

This was the second time I got invited to Buka Bareng Blogger (blogger’s break fasting gathering) held by Grand Indonesia Shopping Town with Fimela and Multiply Indonesia as dotcom sponsors; the event was one of the many activities for the Ramadan Rhapsody program. August 23th was the date, four days after the Katsusei‘s event, just enough time to prepare myself for another feast.  The place was Jun Njan Seafood Restaurant, the final participating restaurant for the BBB event after Tairyo and Katsusei.

Bali Jimbaran

kepiting saos jimbaran (crab with jimbaran sauce) @ bali jimbaran

Dear fellow tasters,

Jimbaran area in Bali island is renowned for its seafood restaurants alongside the tourists-crowded beach.  If you’ve never been there, like me, or simply longs for a glimpse of Jimbaran taste, do drop by Bali Jimbaran restaurants, one of them located just across Mangga Dua Square, on Jalan Gunung Sahari Ancol area.  For a seafood restaurant, this place doesn’t really put emphasis on ambiance although the air-con is good enough to battle the scorching Jakartan heat.  The menu of course offers seafood selection with different choice of preparation: grilled, fried, boiled, or cooked with your chosen sauce or style.

Makassar Seafood Pelangi

baronang bakar rica (grilled rica baronang fish ) @ makassar seafood pelangi

Dear fellow tasters,

Once in a while, it’s nice to step out of the air-conned shopping malls and fancy ambiance-selling restaurants to experience simple and humble yet rich and exotic Indonesian food culture.  One place to go is close to hawker food destination, Jalan Sabang, where you can find a renowned Makassar restaurant, namely Makassar Seafood Pelangi on Wahid Hasyim just near the busy intersection.   Continue reading

Manhattan Fish Market

manhattan platter for two @ manhattan fish market

Dear fellow tasters,

Manhattan Fish Market is a new fish and chips franchise restaurant which opened last year and I’ve been to their Grand Indonesia outlet several times.  The menu specialties of course are from fish and seafood selection.  One recommended item would be the ‘Manhattan platter for two’ which can be shared by two persons or more because it already includes a huge portion of deep fried dory, tasty fried oysters which my friends and I particularly like, calamari rings, flame-grilled prawns, as well as French fries and butter rice.   Continue reading

By The Beach

vulcanic ‘tahu telor’ @ by the beach

Dear fellow tasters,

What used to be Fashion Bar in Plaza Indonesia eX is now a beach restaurant, suitably named By The Beach.  The white-grayish stone-covered exterior of this restaurant is adorned by wooden windows offering a peek at the white-curtained wood-and-rattan-furnished interior complete with fake palm trees and beach atmosphere sans an oceanic view.  And the menu, of course, offered mostly seafood selection with a mix of chinese, indonesian, and western touches.
