Bakmi Gang Kelinci

locupan pangsit baso @ bakmi gang kelinci

Dear fellow tasters,

Noodle, introduced by the Chinese, has become somewhat a regular part of the diet for Indonesian and other world citizens.  It can be found almost everywhere, in the form of plastic-wrapped instant noodle and traveling cart ‘mie ayam’ hawkers to the the fancy menu in snazzy restaurants and other culinary establishments.  One of the popular Indonesian noodle dishes is bakmi or bakmie (literal origin from Hokkien words); there’s even a separate wikipedia article on it.  And one place in Jakarta to enjoy a yummy bowl of bakmi is Bakmi Gang Kelinci which has been selling bakmi ayam since 1957.  Continue reading

Rakumen

beef ramen @ rakumen

Dear fellow tasters,

The next three posts will feature the last food photo remnants from my pick-pocketed gemini (rest its soul), so please kindly bear the lousy picture quality.  This one is from a lone dinner at a noodle shop in Senayan City shopping mall, called Rakumen.  I was actually craving for some ramen, but it turned out this Waraku group noodle resto featured only a few ramen menu, more on udon and soba menu.  Continue reading

Marutama Ra-men

ebi ra-men @ marutama ra-men

Dear fellow tasters,

This one’s another Japanese post.  Gomen nasai, but I just couldn’t resist a good sushi or this time, a good ramen.  Marutama Ra-men is another recent addition to the ramen shops in Jakarta and I happened to stop by their Plaza Indonesia outlet twice already.  First visit was a solitary dinner and as I looked at the menu, there was only a few ramen menu and appetizers on one side, and nabemono (Japanese steamboat) menu on the other side.  Continue reading

Bakmi Aboen

bakmi lebar spesial aboen (special wide noodle)

Dear fellow tasters,

This noodle shop might be stuck in a small alley somewhere in Pasar Baru shopping area, but for a taste of good-old ‘bakmi’ (Chinese noodle, usually with chicken or pork), it’s definitely the place to go.  Bakmi Aboen might not be a restaurant in a five star hotel or a noodle joint in a nice shopping mall, but I will definitely keep coming back there just for the ‘bakmi spesial’ (special noodle).   Continue reading

Ramen 38 Sanpachi

ramen 38 sanpachi

Dear fellow tasters,

Before the first time I ate at this ramen place, I had always heard about how good their ramen is especially their hot/spicy ramen and it trully is.  Ramen 38 Sanpachi has several outlets across Jakarta, recently also in several shopping centers, but the original outlet is the one on Jalan Melawai Raya one floor above the Kamome Japanese supermarket. The place may be small and not air conditioned, but during meal times you can always expect a packed crowd there.

Din Tai Fung

xiao long bao @ din tai fung

Dear fellow tasters,

It was before noon on a Monday and the ladies from my former workplace were already buzzing on YM about going out for lunch. Din Tai Fung on Plaza Indonesia was the choice of the day. Claiming to be one of the world’s best restaurants, the menu offers a variety of Chinese cuisine and their specialty is the xiao long bao (small dragon steamed dumpling). Continue reading
