Dear fellow tasters,

Several weeks ago, I was invited to an ‘Intimate Blogger Lunch Gathering’ at Yellowfin Sake Bar & Kitchen.  It turned out there were only two bloggers attending, me and Selba from Selby’s Food Corner.  Pretty intimate indeed!  Located on the bustling corner of Senopati and Gunawarman roads, Yellowfin is a hip and trendy sake bar slash Japanese restaurant offering a menu encompassing traditional and contemporary Japanese dishes, such as sushi, sashimi, ramen, yakitori, grilled (yaki), as well as an extensive collection of sake and shocu.

We started by ordering some soda-based mocktails to drink, Castle in the Sky and Ponyo, quite a cooling refreshment against the sweltering heat outside.  As for the food, Yellowfin had already selected some of their specialty dishes for us to try.  The first two to appear were definitely the highlights of the afternoon, Gindara Saikyo Yaki and Buta Bara Jalapeno.  The gindara or black cod was marinated with saikyo miso overnight and then grilled without any additional seasonings, resulting in a delectable piece of fish.  The Buta Bara Jalapeno was also a winner, two skewers of pork belly slices, buttery and a tad spicy and salty from the jalapeno butter, literally melting in the mouth.

After a slight misunderstanding and minor mishap, several more dishes were ordered by Mr. Gunawan, the friendly and easy-on-the-eyes restaurant manager.  We loved the Tobiko Wakame Salad very much and the Hot! Shoyu Ramen was pretty delicious but already too spicy on level 2 for me.  The Volcano Roll, Dory Chili Garlic Sauce and Ebi Harumaki were also all quite enjoyable.  We ended the lunch with a delightful Green Tea Ogura Dorayaki dessert and a sip or two of their homemade strawberry and orange flavored shocu.  Thank you Yellowfin, Ms. Sheila for inviting me and Mr. Gunawan for the wonderful hospitality.  I will definitely be back to the Nippon Crib to try the curry rice and green tea sake tiramisu.

いただきます。 Itadakimasu!
